This is our 1997 Land Rover Defender 90, finished in AA Yellow with grey twill vinyl interior and full safari cage. It is an absolutely great example in all respects and one of just 371 AA Yellow imported in the final year of import by Land Rover North America. This 4.0 v8 has just under 27,000 miles and is paired with a 4 speed automatic transmission. It has been garage kept its entire life. Fitted with a Kenwood radio and nice aftermarket speakers, a new canvas top, lift kit, and BFG K02 tires. It also has a Warn wench, and Hella lights up front.
Few vehicles summon up the sort of romance and nostalgia as this, the Last Of The Defenders. It is truly a much-loved, automotive fossil that when discontinued practically triggered a bout of national mourning. The aluminum-bodied Defender was introduced in 1994 and after a hiatus for 1996, it was brought back in 1997 for a final hurrah. During its run of three model years, fewer than 7,000 were brought over to North America. Its rarity in the United States has pushed it even further into the realm of exclusivity. All ’97 models had the upgraded and cleaner-burning 4.0L V-8, which yielded 182 horsepower and 233 lb-ft of torque. Many consider the Defender 90 the last of the “real” Land Rovers with their short wheelbase, solid axles, and mountain goat ability.
