Way back in 1963, the world first laid eyes on the 911, introduced at the 1963 Frankfurt auto show. It was originally debuted as the Porsche 901 and soon after changed to 911. After half a century in existence the car’s basic formula has survived largely unchanged. The 911 not only became a Porsche classic, but it also became a global icon, a stature only a handful of cars can claim to have reached. In 2013, again at the Frankfurt auto show Porsche introduced the 50th Anniversary Edition of the 911 and limited it to only nine hundred and sixty three examples.
It is difficult to overstate how gorgeous this 50th Anniversary model is. It’s like, you just know this is something very special at a glance.
When Porsche built this special edition 911 they honored the model range by borrowing the wide body from the 4S, 10mm lower suspension from the GTS and added a power kit (+30hp) to this Carrera S drive train. The combination of this dropped stance and wide hips is mesmerizing. The front intakes and grille are black with chrome accents, as is a little two-bar strip, window surrounds, and the rear deck louvers pair nicely with the massive Two-tone Fuchs-style 20-inch wheels. The exterior is topped off with a very distinctive ‘911 50’ badge that has been finished in two-tone 3D-style on the rear lid.
The inside is full of subtle throw backs to the original 901. The gauges are lit with green lettering, white needles, and silver pointer caps. It seems the leather on the dash and doors is finer than normal, the aluminum trim looks to haves been brushed harder and the headrests are embroidered with two-tone “911 50” lettering. This car is appointed spot on, exactly how you would want it.
As expected, the 50th Anniversary 911 has become highly collectible.
