This is likely to be the last new model ever fitted with this 5.0-liter V-8 engine, churning out 550 horsepower and 502 pound-feet of torque getting you to 60 mph in an impressive 3.8 seconds. The SV-programmed eight-speed automatic transmission delivers crisp and accurate shifts, with gear changes that range from smooth in the comfort-oriented drive mode profiles to downright violent in the Dynamic setting.
It pulls strongly throughout its rev range and, thanks to an all-new active exhaust system, sounds particularly aggressive when pressed hard. SVO wisely hasn't tuned the Velar's pipes to produce the excessive pops and bangs when lifting off the throttle. The brakes also are worthy of praise, with the big 15.6-inch rotors front and rear proving tireless even when tasked with the thermal loads of long, spirited drives. Stops from 70 mph come in a respectable 165 feet. High-speed refinement also is excellent, with the suspension seeming to work best when maintaining rock-solid stability at triple-digit speeds. Travel in the Velar SVAutobiography can be both rapid and relaxed at the same time.
The interior is beautifully finished with supremely comfortable, handsomely quilted Windsor leather seats. It's impossible to be uncomfortable with these 20-way electronic adjustability, heating and cooling abilities, and even a massage function. Full of impressive technology including the dual-touchscreen infotainment that looks beautiful and sophisticated with crisp graphics are just the begining in this feature-rich cabin. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto came standard, and this one is equipped with an intuitive heads-up display. There is a large 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster that's very versatile, able to display everything from navigation to audio and driver assistance features.
