The Mercedes-AMG G63 throws sensibility out the window accelerating like a sports car, appointed in luxury and capable of a safari.
Introduced in 1979, the G-wagon is an iconic dinosaur. Even though Mercedes has changed almost everything while maintaining the legendary shape and stance Without seeing the old and new side by side, casual observers will go on thinking it’s unchanged. All of the important G cues are there: the awkward trim strips encircling the body, a spare tire hanging off a massive side-hinged rear portal, square-cut doors (now with rounded edges) with exposed hinges, a clamshell hood, and marker lights on top of the fenders.
While the G63 still has incredible off-road capability with it’s ladder frame, three locking differentials and trail-ready equipment. The new G63 rides and drives far more like a modern luxury vehicle, soaking up bumps without making occupants feel like they are on a fire road. Having all the trimmings of a luxury machine, sports standard equipment such as a 12.3-inch infotainment screen with navigation and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility.
